Civil Disobedience Workshop

Council of Canadians is holding a workshop to teach the fundamentals of
peaceful civil disobedience - it's free.

The workshop will be 4 hours long and will be given by Harjap Grewal,
BC-Yukon Regional Organizer, Council of Canadians. This workshop will give
people the tools to undertake peaceful civil disobedience on critical issues
of social, environmental and economic justice.

Canadian courts have said that civil disobedience is acceptable if you act
peacefully, accept any consequences, and act on a clear moral issue.

The Cowichan Intercultural Society is celebrating their upcoming 30th year Anniversary Celebration by featuring three exciting community events on one day: Walk of the Nations (organized by the Walk of Nations Committee, including Social Planning Cowichan, CIS and community members), One World Festival and Tapestry Gala on October 22, 2011. Transition Cowichan will be there.

A series of workshops on specific seed saving techniques, facilitated by local experts. A keynote address will be given by Dan Jason, owner of Salt Spring Seeds and President of The Seed and Plant Sanctuary for Canada.

Topics to be covered: organic methods, planting for diversity, roguing, isolation distances, inbreeders vs. outbreeders, annuals and biennials, harvesting seeds, winnowing, threshing & seed storage.

Josh Tickell will premiere his new movie, “FREEDOM” on Friday night (register here). Josh is a professional speaker, author, filmmaker and alternative fuels enthusiast. You may remember his 2009 film, “FUEL”, which won the 2008 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award, and was described by the Seattle Times as “Dynamic, stirring…a must-see, and not just for environmentalists.”

Josh’s new movie, “FREEDOM” takes a hard look at North America’s ever-growing addiction to foreign oil, and delves into the pros and cons of the “black sheep” that is ethanol.
